Now What?

Some tips from our community team to make the most of your Discovery experience.

Some tips from our community team to make the most of your Discovery experience.

So your group is now Discoverable within the Geneva app… yay! Now people around the world can find your group and request to join 😊 Here are a few tips from our Community team on how to make the most of it.

(If you’re reading this but haven’t yet submitted your group for Discovery, you can learn more about how to do that here).

‍

Add a question gate

A question gate is a handy feature that lets you ask potential new members a series of questions to figure out if they’re a good fit for your community. You can ask general things like "Why do you want to join this group?" or more specific questions like “What’s the last book you read?”

You don’t have to approve everyone who requests to join

Now that you’re in Discovery, more people will probably try to join your group. Exciting! But you still have control over who you let it in. Don’t feel bad rejecting requests if something doesn’t feel right. If you do happen to let someone in and they end up not being a good fit, that’s ok! You can remove them from your group at any time.

If you ever feel like your group is getting too many requests, you can temporarily remove your group from Discovery and turn it back on whenever you’re ready.

Give users context

People who find your group via Discovery may not have the whole story on what your community’s all about, so it’s best to give new members some kind of intro to the space.

Here’s a few things we’ve seen work well!

• Write a simple set of rules & a friendly welcome message to help set the tone.

• Have a multiple-choice question as part of your question gate that’s like “How did you find this group?” For folks who say they found your group on Geneva or in Discovery, send them a personal DM introducing yourself and giving some more info about the community.

‍

One more thing: ‘Discovery’ is just on iPhone and Android for now — so don’t be surprised if you check on the web or desktop app and don’t see it! You can still approve/reject people from any of the apps.

Good luck, have fun, and if you have any other questions, feel free to email us at [email protected]!👋
